From Kakamega to Abroad: Madam Fanice's flight, and the work behind it.

Very early this morning, one of our team stood at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and watched Fanice— walk toward the gate. The route is real: Nairobi → Hamad International, Doha → Manchester 🇬🇧→ Leeds.

The feeling in the terminal was simple. A student who started in a Kakamega village was boarding a plane to the University Abroad. That is not a poster. That is a departure board.

Fanice came to Taraji Masomo Care when the shop was still small. She was looking for a funded path. Together we did what we still do first: A profile assessment. Papers, course, what the window will ask, what the family can stand. Not a flag on a banner. A score. That work helped her secure a World Bank full scholarship and a place at Leeds.

Full funding is rare. It is not luck dressed as branding. It is a file that survived other people’s questions. We tell this story for one reason. Africa’s rural students are not a side market. They are the point. Rural-first means the village is not a footnote you add after Nairobi, Abuja,Kampala etc. It means a girl from Kakamega can be assessed with the same seriousness as anyone who already has an uncle in the city.

This morning is also a marker for what we are building next. Taraji Global Scholars is the wing for bright African students who need a funded or scored path — assessment first, then the work, not a stamp we do not own. We will launch that door properly. Until then, the method does not change: truth on the form, same-field plans, no hope-visas. Fanice’s flight does not mean every file will end in Doha and Manchester. Some windows say no. We keep those too. What we will not do is leave a village student outside the hall because the map looks far.

To the family who trusted us: travel well. To the student in the terminal: the degree is the next job. To the parent reading this on a phone: start with an assessment. If the file is not ready, we will say so. If it is, we will walk.
