Rural-First Last Mile Tour: Why We Are Going to the Villages At Taraji Masomo Care we have always said the same thing: Africa’s rural students are not a side market. They are the point. For too long the study-abroad industry has waited for students to travel to the city, find the office, pay the fee, and hope for the best. That model leaves too many brilliant young people behind — the girl in Kakamega, the boy in Siaya, the student in a small town who has the grades and the hunger but not the map or the uncle in Nairobi. That is why, on 5 January 2027, we open a new wing with the Rural-First Last Mile Tour.“Last mile” is simple. It is the final stretch — the hard, dusty, often invisible distance between a talented student and a real opportunity. Most agencies stop before that stretch. We are choosing to walk it.The Tour is not a marketing event with banners and loudspeakers. It is our team going into communities, sitting with families, running honest profile assessments, explaining scholarships without sugar-coating, and showing clear pathways that match the student’s actual file. Where the case is strong, we walk with them. Where it is not yet ready, we say so early and help them prepare or find a better fit. No hope-visas. No empty promises. This is the same discipline that helped Madam Fanice move from a Kakamega village to the University of Leeds on a full World Bank scholarship. It is the same filter we use every day. Now we are taking that filter closer to the students who need it most. We are not claiming we will reach every village overnight. We are simply refusing to leave the last mile unwalked. If you are a student, parent, teacher, or community leader in a rural or underserved area, the door is opening. Come and talk to us — on the ground, face to face, with no pressure and no hidden fees. From the village classroom to the departure board. That is rural-first when it is real.
